  1. A lot of questions and no answers in the comments section, missed a few steps that really could have helped such as: Why mint shows up in your network folder but not on my fresh install, where does to conf file created in nano get saved? I don't have a "samba" folder in my home root directory, should I create one? Where did the conf files in your samba folder come from?
are they custom conf files or just ones that should be there already? There are a lot of really big spaces here that kind of cripple an otherwise great tutorial. Appreciate any help. -Best MD

  2. when I installed samba on Debian 10 non-free, got this:
Failed to preset unit: Unit file /etc/systemd/system/samba-ad-dc.service is masked.
/usr/bin/deb-systemd-helper: error: systemctl preset failed on samba-ad-dc.service: No such file or directory

  3. Thanks. Worked first time. I guess Linux experts in general complicate matters by being too technical… so are the manuals and instructions. You clearly understand how to simplify matters for mortal humans.

  4. Thanks Lou! I have been struggling on this very challenge and am going to try this approach – but it look like your link for "Download Lou's Samba Configs" is now broken. Any chance you can update? Thanks again.

  5. This tutorial is a great help! It still works in 2020. I was able to configure a samba connection between my Chromebook and my Linux Mint desktop before the end of the video.

  6. I took viewing it several times and stopping/starting to put your steps in to action but I now can see files on a LT HD on my Linux PC! Great video for super newbies such as myself. Thank you for the instructions!

  7. Thanks Lou I really appreciate your willingness to help us that are having trouble learning Linux. After going through your video I still can't see the Samba shares from my windows 10 Pro machines. Any help would be appreciated.
